China has permanently blocked 66,600 social media accounts in a campaign aimed at cleaning up internet content, according to a statement from China’s cyber watchdog.

According to the Shafqna translation service, Bloomberg news agency reported: “Since May 22, Chinese authorities have suspended more than 1.41 million electronic publications and 928 thousand user accounts due to violations such as spreading rumors, impersonating government accounts or news agencies, or misuse. They have taken advantage of social issues.

China will continue to punish illegal activities on social networks and deal with sites and electronic platforms that do not reform their activities.

“This country has targeted user accounts that spread rumours.”
