The support of the American people for strict gun control laws

New polls show that a majority of Americans support stricter gun control laws.

The results of new polls, jointly published by CNN and the SSRS Institute, indicate that 64 percent of Americans support stricter gun control laws. Meanwhile, 36 percent disagree with this issue.

According to this survey, 54% of Americans believe that such laws will reduce the number of deaths and killings of citizens with firearms, and 58% believe that the government can take effective action to prevent mass shootings.

In addition, 59 percent of the participants in this survey stated that they supported the ban of semi-automatic weapons, while 94 percent believed that laws should be enacted to prevent the possession of weapons by criminals and people with mental problems.

Also, 8 out of 10 people say that people under the age of 21 should not be allowed to buy any type of weapon.

Among other results of this survey, it can be said that 36% of carrying weapons causes insecurity in public places and 32% believe that carrying weapons increases security in public places or that it does not make a difference.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden last Wednesday asked Congress to do more about gun violence, including banning the use of assault weapons and background checks, creating red flag laws and ending immunity for gun manufacturers.

The rise of armed violence in America is such that every week we see bloody shootings in some part of the United States.

It should be noted that since the beginning of 2023, about 14 thousand people have been killed in armed violence in America.
